A fail is not the end of the story — but the clock on your window is running. Here are your actual options, in the order most NSmen should consider them.
Calculate My IPPT Score →You may attempt IPPT as many times as you need within your window (note: no further attempts are allowed in a window once you attain Gold). Only the first 3 attempts count toward service/make-up pay and the 40-day call-up limit. If your fail was narrow, the fastest fix is targeted: find your cheapest next points with the score improvement method, train 3–6 weeks, and retest. Book via OneNS — see how booking works.
You do not have to pass IPPT to clear your window. Complete 10 NS FIT sessions including 1 IPPT attempt within the window and the requirement is fulfilled. Attempts you have already made in the same window are credited toward the programme — check your standing in OneNS. Track your sessions with the NS FIT Tracker and read the NS FIT Guide. If you pass IPPT at any point during NS FIT, you are done immediately.
If you scored 51+ overall but 0 in a static station, MINDEF calls it a partial failure — not a plain fail. You retest only the failed station within 90 days of the attempt or before your window ends, whichever is earlier, and the 90 days must lie within your current window. No monetary incentive is paid on a partial retest. Our calculator flags this result explicitly so you do not mistake it for a pass.
An unfulfilled window makes the next one a Mandatory NS FIT window — the obligation carries over with less flexibility. The worst outcome is never the fail itself; it is ignoring the window. Pick a route now: retest with a plan, or start NS FIT sessions while there is still time.
You can retake IPPT within your window, or fulfil the requirement by completing 10 NS FIT sessions (including 1 IPPT attempt). If your window closes unfulfilled, the next window becomes Mandatory NS FIT.
As many attempts as you need within your window — but only the first 3 count for service/make-up pay, and no attempts are allowed after attaining Gold in that window.
Scoring 51+ points overall but 0 in a static station. You retest only the failed station within 90 days or before your window ends (whichever is earlier), with no incentive paid on the partial retest.
